First, you must comply with the requirements for a marriage license. This is needed for all types of weddings – Catholic, Christian, church wedding, beach ceremony, etc.
The second set of requirements are for a Catholic ceremony, if you want to have your wedding inside a Catholic church, solemnized by a Catholic priest.
Requirements for Marriage License in Cebu, Philippines
- Certified True Copies of your Birth Certificates
- NSO Certificate of No Marriage, for both parties, even for foreigners
- For foreigners only, Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry, issued by the Consular Office
- For foreigners, photocopy of passport showing personal info and date of arrival
- Valid ID, original and photocopy
- 2 pcs ID with white background
- Community Tax Certificate or Cedula
- Marriage Application Form
- If annulled, Certificate of Annulment of the church
- If widowed, death certificate of deceased spouse
- If applicant is below 25 years old, Notarized Affidavit of Parental Consent
- Marriage license application form, issued by LCR office
- Personal appearance of the applying parties
- Personal attendance at the pre-marriage counseling, family planning, and responsible parenthood seminar. Submit the certificate of attendance and return on the date indicated on the claim slip
- Requirements will be processed within 10 BUSINESS days
- Marriage License is valid for 120 days only. Please plan accordingly.

Requirements for Catholic Church Wedding
The requirements for a Catholic church wedding must be submitted even if you have been civilly married already but have not been married in a Catholic church before.
- Marriage license, valid within 120 days of issuance
- Baptismal certificate, with annotation “For marriage purposes”, acquired within 3 months prior to wedding date
- Confirmation certificate, with annotation “For marriage purposes”, acquired within 3 months prior to wedding date
- Canonical interview with the priest of your chosen church, or the chancery
- Pre-cana/ Marriage Preparation seminar. This can be taken in your local parish abroad, just provide letter of attendance
- Marriage banns, posted in your local church for 3 consecutive weeks. Then, you will get a letter from the local parish stating there are no impediments and you can marry. Marriage banns are waived for foreigners; but they must submit Certificate of freedom to marry from the foreigner’s parish.
- List of principal sponsors and entourage. Each church will have individual requirements for this, such as limiting principal sponsors to only 6 pairs, etc. SOme churches will be more strict than others.
- Confession, required by some churches
- For mixed marriages, Must get clearance letter from the Chancery office, which needs:
- Letter from the pastor or minister of the non-Catholic sect stating the non-Catholic bride or groom is approved to marry and has never been married before
- Promise for Mixed Marriage Form, to be filled out during the interview
- If widowed, death certificate of deceased spouse
- For renewal of vows, present a copy of the Marriage Certificate
